Dear Members and Friends of First Presbyterian Church:
Back in October, the Session of our church, after long deliberations, decided that it was not prudent for our church to resume in-person group activities in our church, including worship, through the end of 2020. The wisdom of that decision has been born out by the steep rise in Covid cases in our area and our country sover the last two months—the second wave is definitely here.
Last Monday, the Session again considered the question of resuming in-person worship on our sanctuary. This time, the session was guided by feedback provided by our Deacons, who spent the last month interviewing members on their parish lists about their thoughts on resuming in-person worship. The Session also considered guidance from the denomination as well as the current virus trends in central Ohio. The result was that the Session decided that we will continue to do worship remotely for at least the months of January and February. The end of this ordeal is coming, we just need to stay the course until it arrives.
As I said back in June, this is a dynamic and challenging time for churches. We are all traveling in an uncharted wilderness caused by the pandemic. But like the ancient Israelites before us, we do not travel this wilderness alone. God continues to guide us as we walk this path together and I have faith that God will lead us to a “promised land” for our church and for our faith.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Mark Gauen
